The Asheville Lyric opens its 14th season with one of
the most beloved operas of all time, La
Traviata. No art form can surpass
opera’s ability to present the passion and drama found in universal stories;
and La Traviata is a superb example
of this. Giuseppi Verdi’s tale of
desire, love, and redemption comes to the Diana Wortham Theatre stage this
fall. No opera expresses the
transformative power of love more than La
Traviata. We experience how Violetta, a courtesan living in Paris, transcends the haze
of riches and excess by sacrificing herself for the one she loves. She teaches
us that love can evolve the soul beyond societal constraints. This new production features Metropolitan
Opera soprano Elizabeth Caballero as Violetta and the triumphant return of
Director Jon Truitt, after last season's achingly beautiful rendition of Madame Butterfly.
Performances are on October 5th and 6th at
8:00pm, in the Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. All
performances will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.
Adult tickets range from $30-$53 with
student tickets available from $17-$35. Single

public performance, audience members are invited to attend a pre-show talk
given by the conductor and stage director in the lower lobby of Diana Wortham
Theatre. Additionally, a preview dress
rehearsal evening (October 3 at 7pm) will be made available for student and
senior citizen groups through the opera office.
