Belk begins 125 days of service



Store volunteers to give makeovers to local schools

As part of its 125th anniversary celebration this year, Belk is showing its continued gratitude and commitment to the Southern communities it serves by enlisting store volunteers to do makeovers  in local schools over a 125 day period from March 10 – July 12. Belk is working In partnership with Points of Light, the world’s largest organization devoted to volunteer service, which will help mobilize and coordinate Belk’s efforts regionwide 

(Learn more:  www.pointsoflight.org).  Locally, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, an affiliate of HandsOn Network/Points of Light, is proud to partner with local Belk stores to create and manage these meaningful volunteer projects at local elementary schools.  (Learn more: handsonasheville.org)

April 16th  from 10am-2pm
-     Belk of Biltmore Square Mall in Asheville, NC will be conducting its service project at Avery’s Creek Elementary School 15 Park South Rd  Arden, NC 28704. Phone: (828) 654-1810
Approximately 20  volunteers will be doing the following activities to make over the school:
-          Constructing  picnic tables
-          Creating educational wall hangings
-          Assembling bookshelves

April 25th from 9am-3pm
-     Belk of Asheville Mall  in Asheville NC will be conducting its service project at Oakley Elelmentary School 753 Fairview Rd. Asheville, NC 28803. Phone:  828-274-7515

Approximately 100  volunteers will be doing the following activities to make over the school: 
  • Constructing  picnic tables  
  • Creating educational wall hangings  
  • Assembling bookshelves  
  • Building planter box benches and landscaping to create a beautiful courtyard for the school


“We’re thrilled to have volunteer activities scheduled in every Belk market so that all of our associates will have the opportunity to participate,” said Jessica Graham, Belk vice president of communications and community relations.  “Our associates are so passionate about the communities they live and work in, so we knew that a key component of our anniversary celebration would include giving back.”
