US Forest Services to host meeting October 5th

The next workshop conducted as part of the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests Management Plan revision will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at the N.C. Arboretum, 100 Frederick Law Olmsted Way, Asheville, N.C. 28806. The session will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to discuss potential needs-for-change in the forest management plan and work together to address the range of all interests.

This Oct. 5th meeting was originally scheduled for Aug. 3, 2013.

Forest Service managers rescheduled the day-long workshop to allow planners, biologists and other staff members more time to review the information submitted as part of the Plan revision Assessment Phase. Agency officials are committed to ensuring that all information submitted during the Assessment Phase is thoroughly reviewed. This will allow agency employees, partners and other members of the public to better determine what changes are needed in the current management plan of the two national forests. The goal is to develop a Plan that guides the sustainable management of the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests for about 15 years.

The Forest Service plans to conduct additional public sessions this fall and winter to continue public participation in the Plan revision process. Information about the Plan revision process is available online at: www.fs.usda.gov/goto/nfsnc/nprevision.
