EVENT DETAILS
Sexy, Seedy, Dark Cabaret Runs February 7-March 2, 2014: The scene is the Kit Kat Club, a night club in Berlin, as the 1920′s are drawing to a close and the Nazis are beginning their rise to power in Germany. Cliff, a young American writer, visits the sleazy Kit Kat Club and meets an English singer, Sally Bowles. Cliff and Sally fall in love, but when the political climate changes, they are forced to make choices that will forever impact their lives. Cabaret is recommended for mature audiences. Cabaret is directed by Jerry Crouch, with musical direction by Lenora Thom and choreography by Kathleen Meyers Leiner. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Tickets range from $15.00-$25.00.

Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune Opens in 35below: Jeff Catanese and Cary Nichols star in Terrence McNally’s Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, a romantic comedy for grown-ups.
In a walk-up apartment on Manhattan’s West Side, Frankie (a waitress) and Johnny (a short-order cook who works in the same restaurant) are in bed. Johnny is convinced that he loves Frankie, a notion that she, at first, considers to be ridiculous. She has had more disappointments than delights in life, and he is the veteran of one broken marriage already. And neither of them is in the bloom of youth. Despite this, the promise of a relationship beyond a “one-night stand” does begin to emerge. Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune will be performed February 6-23, 2014 with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm.  All tickets are $15.00 and are available online, by phone or in person at the ACT Box Office.

Saturdays at ACT presents Feet Water and The Sultan’s Wife: On February 17, 2014, Attic Salt Theatre headlines Asheville Community Theatre’s Saturday family series. Feet Water is a funny Irish folktale that will transport your whole family to Ireland, where you will come face-to-face with a mischievous bucket of dirty foot-washing water! Puppets, masks and a whole lot of audience participation will keep even your youngest kids laughing. In The Sultan’s Wife, music and comedy are in great abundance in this adaptation of a Swahili folktale. This engaging fable is sure to keep both children and adults laughing as they find themselves empathizing with a hapless sultan, his too-smart servant and a poor man who knows the secret to keeping those around him happy. The performance of Feet Water begins at 9:30 am; The Sultan’s Wife begins at 11:00 am. Tickets to either show are $5.00.
Storytelling series Listen to This: In the vein of “The Moth” or “This American Life,” Listen to This features stories and original songs from locals.  February’s theme: Febru-80s - Decadent Stories from the Storied Decade. Performance is February 27, 2014 at 7:30 pm in 35below at Asheville Community Theatre. Hosted by Tom Chalmers. Tickets are $10.00.
