Internationally recognized pianist to perform at the Asheville Art Museum - April 6th

The Asheville Art Museum is excited to announce its next Pianoforte recital on Sunday, April 6, at 3:00 pm, featuring internationally-recognized soloist Sandra Wright Shen. The award-winning pianist will be playing pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel, Zhao Zhang, Peixun Chen and Sergei Rachmaninoff, among others. The Museum’s Pianoforte recitals are held in the East Wing Upstairs Gallery, among evocative works of art. During Shen’s recital, the masterful photography of Ralph Burns will be on view in the gallery.

Shen is an acclaimed pianist, and has received many first prize awards, including 2012 International Piano Competition of France. She has also won first prizes in the 1997 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the Mieczyslaw Munz Piano Competition, the Taiwan National Piano Competition and the Peabody Frances M. Wentz Memorial Prize. Shen recently concluded a tour of both Taiwan and mainland China.

Shen received her Bachelor’s and Master’s in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory, under Ann Schein. Shen has appeared at the Kennedy Music Center in Washington, DC, the Chicago Cultural Center, Monte Carlo Opera House, the Frankfurt Cultural Center in Germany, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and the Taiwan National Concert Hall. She is a resident of California, but comes east in the summer months and teaches at the Brevard Music Center.

The Museum is thrilled to be able to bring the art of music to its galleries, and has been presenting its Pianoforte Series since February of 2007 when pianist John Cobb performed selections of Bela Bartok’s work. Now in its 7th season, the Pianoforte Series has been captivating music and art lovers in Western North Carolina ever since.

The cost of the concert is $8 (+ sales tax) for Museum members and $16 (+ sales tax) for non-members. Pianoforte concerts fill up quickly, so seats should be reserved early by calling the Museum at 828.253.3227.
