VOICE ME
Sound Visualization/Animation, Dimensions variable, 2013
"Voice Me is a sound visualization culled from a collection of recordings from skateparks across the United States, from Charleston Skatepark, SC to Tanzanite Skatepark, CA. The sounds were recorded by the skaters from the Sk8 the St8s adventure across the US.

Impromptu, how a second can change the outcome curated by Martha Skinner will be on display March 28th - April 25th at the Asheville Area Arts Council Gallery with the opening reception held March 28th from 6:00-9:00pm. This exhibition is part of the Asheville Area Arts Council’s on going Point of View, artists curate artists  exhibitions series, which empowers area artist to act as curators. Skinner’s Impromptu invites the viewer to pause and capture the poetic structure of time and place. Skinner explains her curatorial process of Impromptu, how a second can change the outcome:

“I captured a body of works from local artists that also paused and captured as we all do in some way or another, the complexities of the lives we live which transform before our eyes, repeat and cycle yet are never ever the same twice. Unique moments are presented and the work ranges from abstract explorations, to spiritual narratives, to political statements in an array of materials that surprise and rethink the way we represent our ever changing realities as we try to make sense of our world.”

Visual, sound, interactive, and installation works will make up the exhibition, including Lorraine Walsh’s "Voice Me" a sound visualization from a collection of skateparks across the United States, "Sound Painting" by Kima Moore, and “Koori” by Sara Baird that transforms and dissolves during the duration of the exhibition. Other featured artists include: Valeria Watson Doost, Juan Benavides, Kevin Hogan, Alice Sebrell, Jeff Kinzel, Margaret Curtis, Richard Brewster, Nava Lubelski.
