Asheville Wordfest - weekend of poetry, storytelling, and more - May 2-4

Come to Asheville WordfestMay 2–4, 2014 at Lenoir Rhyne University, 36 Montford Ave in Asheville, NC.  Enjoy a packed weekend of poetry, storytelling, workshops and performances – and it is all free.

Asheville Storytelling Circle members will be in concert on Saturday afternoon May 3rd at 1:00 pm. Then that evening, Storyteller Connie Regan-Blake is sharing the stage with other spoken word artists.

Saturday 8:00 - 10:00 pm
Shanita Jackson, Connie Regan-Blake, David Hopes, Phyllis Utley, Ann Dunn, Jaki Shelton-Greene
In a world where language has been turned into a weapon by many, Wordfest is happy to present it as a tool for healing, for creating beauty, for conveying creative ideas, and for moving us into that most valued though without-price commodity: imagination. Enjoy tonight's poets, storytellers, and writers as they fill in the empty spaces of the everyday world with mystery, music, and loving attention to what makes life worth living.

Sunday morning:  11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Connie leads a one hour workshop, open for everyone to learn hints and suggestions on stage presence, approaching and leaving the stage, being grounded, connecting with audience, etc.  That one hour session is free so come and invite any friends and colleagues that might benefit from it.  Encourage them to enjoy the rest of Wordfest, perhaps share lunch with you and then another storytelling performance at 3:00 pm.

Sunday afternoon: 3:00 pm "Brush of Life: A Storytelling Performance" Enjoy this engaging, moving and entertaining final event of Asheville Wordfest, our area's premier spoken word event. Come to Asheville on Sunday, at 3:00 pm & join Storyteller Connie Regan-Blake, StoryWindow Productions and her workshop participants (Vixi Jil Glenn, Christine Westfeldt, Frannie Oates, Juanita Brown and more) as they "Take their Stories to the Stage." (Check out the other Wordfest performances and workshops during the weekend - all are free including the storytelling performance and a one hour workshop that Connie is leading on Sunday at 11:00 am on getting comfortable up front - using mics, etc. Festival is directed by the amazing Laura Hope-Gill.
