The Junior League of
Asheville is pleased to announce its inaugural Volunteer-A-Thon, March 21, at
three different locations throughout Asheville. Volunteer-A-Thon will bring
active and sustaining League members together through hours of service with
three area nonprofits: Helpmate, Claxton Elementary and Steadfast House, all while
raising funds to sustain its long-standing mission.
“With a mission to promote
voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve our community through
the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers, this event is a
great opportunity to make an impact in three diverse areas of need in Buncombe
County while raising valuable funds to sustain the League,” said Keri Wilson,
President of the Junior League of Asheville.
League members will volunteer
at three diverse locations:
- Claxton Elementary, where members will landscape and provide a general cleanup of the school and grounds.
- Helpmate, where members will perform yard work, paint and clean up.
- Steadfast House, where members will adopt and redecorate 2 of the “Mom” rooms by painting, organizing, and redecorating. Members will also make repairs to kitchens and bathrooms along with pressure washing the outside of the house, collecting donations of household goods and furniture, and preparing dinner for residents.
The Junior League of Asheville is
currently seeking donations for this event.
These donations can be monetary, or supplies to complete the projects their
volunteers are taking on during the Volunteer-a-Thon on March 21. Supplies they are looking for to complete the
improvement projects include painting, gardening and cleaning supplies as well
as furniture for bedroom makeovers and items for hygiene kits.
