Habitat to hold special 3-house dedication at ReStore - Oct. 15th

On Thursday, October 15th, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity will celebrate with homeowners, sponsors, Habitat supporters and ReStore customers to dedicate three new Habitat homes located in its Hudson Hills neighborhood in West Asheville. One of the homes is sponsored by the ReStore Silent Auction, and this is a rare opportunity where the home dedication ceremony is brought to the source—in the midst of shoppers whose purchases helped fund the house. Two other homes, Women Build House #10 and The Robert Jenkins Memorial House will also be dedicated. The public and media are invited to attend.

What: Let Us Gather, a dedication of three new Habitat houses. Habitat supporters and the public are invited to attend. The homeowners of the dedicated houses (listed below) will receive ceremonial keys from their respective sponsors.

Why: Habitat is a partnership between homeowners, community volunteers and sponsors. It’s important to celebrate what happens when people work together towards the common vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The families contribute at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” (volunteer work) and will repay a 30-year, interest free mortgage to Habitat. Habitat uses mortgage income to build more houses. Sponsors provided the funding needed to purchase and develop land and buy construction materials. Volunteers provide 1,650 hours of free labor on each Habitat house, keeping costs down and helping to make Habitat homeownership affordable.
