Each year, as
International Credit Union Day is marked on the calendar, Mountain Credit Union
staff begin preparations for celebrations held in each of its seven branch
locations.
According to the World Council of Credit Unions,
International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday
of October since 1948. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union
movement's history and to promote its achievements. It is a day to honor those
who have dedicated their lives to the movement, recognize the hard work of
those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.

This appreciation is expressed though Mountain Credit
Union’s “Member Appreciation Day” which corresponds with ICU Day. Members were
invited to visit their local branches on October 15th to enjoy free
lunch, fun giveaways and to register for great prizes. Several local community
leaders and elected officials, including
Sen. Jim Davis (NC-50), Rep. Brian Turner (NC-116), Rep. John Ager (NC-115) and
Rep. Joe Sam Queen (NC-119) also took the opportunity to stop by and visit
during the festivities.
Autumn is also a time in which local employers focus on
the health and wellness of their employees. Mountain Credit Union staff were
onsite during several Health, Wellness and Benefit Fairs to be a guide through
any type of personal financial situation. MCU was able to demonstrate their
mission of partnering with the community to help the employees of these
businesses manage their financial wellness by teaching them about budgeting,
saving, debt reduction and planning for the future, all through real-world
counseling. During the weeks surrounding ICU Day, nearly 200 people will be
directly impacted through the credit union’s Financial Education Series as well
as countless others who visited booths set up during the various Health Fair
events.
“Showing our appreciation to our members is very
important to us. They are the reason Mountain Credit Union exists and they are
our #1 priority,” shared Patty Idol, President and CEO of the Credit Union.
“Our partnerships with community businesses give us an opportunity to pass
along valuable financial knowledge that can change lives. Changing and
improving lives is what our financial education outreach program is all about!
We are proud to say that we change lives every day,” she added.
