3D printing is the wave of
the future, and now you have the opportunity for your idea to be printed into
reality. 3D novices are encouraged to approach the contest as a learning opportunity,
as this contest includes a how-to webinar and other resources to get you
started in the 3D world. The contest is underway and runs through December 1. The
public is invited to submit original 3D designs to the second annual “Habitat
for the Holidays: 3D Printed Ornament Contest”.
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is partnering again with
Spectra3D
Technologies to host its second 3D ornament design contest. The
winning ornament will be printed in multiples and sold to the public at the Asheville
Habitat ReStore. All proceeds from sales related to this contest will benefit
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. The winning designer will have his or her
choice of a $100 ReStore gift card or a 3Doodler, a 3-dimensional printing pen.
“3D printing is changing the way we create everyday items
and making design a more customizable experience. That is why we are so excited
to invite the community to put their creativity to use designing a holiday
ornament that will help support the important work of Asheville Area Habitat
for Humanity,”
said Steven Schain,
President of Spectra3D Technologies.
Contest guidelines, an instructional webinar, and
resources to learn how to use free software to design 3-dimensional objects are available online at www.HabitatOrnamentContest.com.
The announcement of the winning design and a live 3D printing demonstration
will take place from 10:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, December 5th at the
Habitat ReStore, located at 31 Meadow Road in Asheville. The winning ornament
will be available for sale at the ReStore beginning December 5th.
