The Junior League of Asheville (JLA) has announced their November Love Drive will be in support of MANNA Food Bank.
In 1983, the Junior League of Asheville began
working with a small and newly formed food bank, called MANNA, operating out of the basement of Eliada House. In the 1980s JLA contributed a sizable donation of funds, roughly
estimated at $12,000, as well as numerous volunteer hours. Thirty-two years
later, MANNA has grown to be a tremendous resource within the Asheville
community, and the Junior League of Asheville still maintains a strong partnership with the organization. In 2014, MANNA Food Bank
distributed 15,000,000 pounds of food through 248 agencies in 16 counties.
It is currently estimated that 1 out of 4 children in the WNC community struggle
with hunger, and, through this Love Drive, the Junior League of Asheville and
MANNA are working together in an
effort to decrease this statistic.
During the month of November,
the Junior League of Asheville will be collecting food donations for MANNA Food
Bank. In addition to JLA members
collecting donations, a drop box will be set up in Van Dyke Jewelry
& Fine Craft at 29 Biltmore Ave Asheville, NC 28801. Rebecca Cecil, JLA
member and coordinator of the Love
Drive said, “The Junior League of
Asheville and MANNA Food Bank have been working together for decades, and we
are proud to continue partnering with a local organization that gives so much
back to our community.”
MANNA
Food Bank has specifically requested the following items: canned
meats (beef, chicken, or tuna), peanut butter (plastic jars only), dried/canned
