Second annual Riverview Station Holiday Market set for Dec. 12

On Saturday, December 12 from 4 to 8pm, more than twenty studios at Riverview Station in Asheville’s River Arts District will welcome in the holiday season with their Second Annual Holiday Market.

The block-long structure that is Riverview Station is located at 191 Lyman Street and was erected in 1902 as the Hans Rees Tannery. The building served many purposes before evolving into one of the original properties of Asheville’s River Arts District in 1996, and today it is home to more than 60 fine art and craft studios, several artists’ co-ops and is the closest RAD building to Biltmore Village.

The 2015 Holiday Market features more than twenty open studios and the work of more than 40 artists. Additionally, there will be a food truck on premises, a roving Santa Claus, and bountiful collect door prize entry forms at each studio, with a drawing at River Oaks Studio, Suite 160, at 6:30pm. There is no cost to participate in the door prize raffle. Happy Lucky Food Truck will be on site as well from 4-8pm, with delicious hot food and hot chocolate, in the North parking lot, with indoor seating available at 310 Art and The Village Potters. Santa Claus will be available for pictures at The Village Potters for the first and last hour of the event, and will roam the building for additional photos and spreading of holiday joy from 5-7, and will make the door prize drawings at 6:30pm.

Returning artists showcasing exquisitely designed and hand-crafted wares for the Holiday Market include 310 Art Gallery, The Village Potters, Basketry by Matt Tommey, Jonas Gerard Gallery, Bluebird Designs, Grateful Threads and Rise Design. In addition, Riverview Station owner Helaine Greene is pleased to announce the completion of a renovation on the second floor of the building. “We are delighted,” says Greene, “that from that hall printmakers and painters Matt Decker, Chelsey and Lindsay Curtin will be open, as well as abstract oil painter Genie Maples, among others”. Attendees will find well marked and lit hallways filled with art and light refreshments as they make their way throughout Riverview Station.
