Preparation
is essential to successfully completing a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail.
The Mast General Store in Asheville is hosting a free seminar on January 19
from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. to provide insight and information to help with
understanding the culture and knowledge a hiker will need to complete the trek
from Georgia to Maine.
The
speaker for the evening is Chloe de Camara from the Appalachian Trail
Conservancy (ATC). She spent 142 days on an emotional and physical
2,189-mile-long rollercoaster that is the AT. Drawing on her personal
experience and that she has gained in her current position of ridgerunner and
base camp coordinator with the ATC, she will share information on all aspects
of the AT in this informative seminar.
A
North Carolina native and graduate of UNC-Asheville, Chloe has a personal
relationship with the AT. She began as a volunteer after graduation and became
enamored with the trail itself and the staff. After her thru hike, she realized
that the Trail had given her an ineffable experience. In turn, she accepts her
responsibility for protecting the Trail and introducing others to the
experience of a lifetime.
Bring
your dreams and aspirations, along with your questions, to gain first-hand
knowledge on what gear to bring, how to plan your meals, how to get in trail
shape, and other ins and outs of the journey. The staff at the Mast
Store in Asheville will be demonstrating gear and sampling trail food. The
seminar is free, but a sign up is requested because of limited space. Please
