Event Details
Crimes of the Heart Closes Mainstage Season: The three Magrath sisters reunite in their Mississippi hometown after the youngest has just shot her husband. Each sister, different in her own right, struggles with the unfamiliarity of being back together again. The three women escape the past to seize the future – and it's told in a way that is true, touching, and consistently hilarious. Crimes of the Heart opens August 12, 2016 and runs through August 28, 2016 with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Auditions for Sweeney Todd: Auditions for Sweeney Todd will be held August 8-9, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Asheville Community Theatre. Auditions for this large cast musical are open to all in the community, no previous experience required. Please prepare 16 bars of music and bring your sheet music to the audition in the key in which you will be singing. Accompanist provided. Directed by Jerry Crouch with musical direction by Lenora Thom.

Auditions for The Circle: The Autumn Players will hold auditions for the witty drama The Circle on August 9, 2016 from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm in 35below, the black box theatre underneath Asheville Community Theatre. The Circle will be performed as reader’s theatre. Auditions are open to all in the community, no previous experience required. All audition material is provided at the auditions. Directed by Elliot Weiner.

Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge: You’re in the audience for a live game show in the tradition of Wait, Wait…. Don’t Tell Me! Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge is a live, unscripted panel show featuring local actors and personalities putting their wits to the test as they try and answer esoteric questions about random topics. Hosted by Adam Arthur on August 17, 2016 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Tickets are $12.00 and are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box Office.

Storytelling series Listen to This: For more than 5 years, Listen to This has featured live stories told on stage along with stand-up comedy and original songs – all from local writers, actors, performers, and other interesting folks. Hosted by Tom Chalmers on August 25, 2016 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Tickets are $15.00 and are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box Office.

The Autumn Players’ Readers Theatre Showcase Series Presents The Circle: Is it better to remain in a dull but decent marriage or to leave it behind for the sake of a passionate love affair? This witty drama from 1921 is considered Somerset Maugham’s finest work for the stage. Performances are Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27, 2016 in 35below at Asheville Community Theatre and Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville.  All performances begin at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $6.00 (includes NC Sales Tax) and are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box Office through August 26. All remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
