Keynote speakers announced for NC Society of Human Resource Management state conference

The 2016 North Carolina Society for Human Resource Management State Conference (NCSHRM) will take place September 28-30, 2016, at the U.S. Cellular Center. The largest event of its kind to be hosted by a local association at the U.S. Cellular Center to date, the NCSHRM Conference is an annual gathering of human resources professionals from around the state. Local organizers anticipate 1,000 attendees for the three-day event, with additional attendance expected for the individual keynote speakers and general sessions.

“After a nearly ten-year absence, the Western North Carolina Human Resource Association is thrilled to be hosting the NC SHRM State conference once again in Asheville. This year’s theme, “Lead Differently,” reflects what we believe to be one of our community’s strengths, and our planning team has worked hard to imbue the various conference elements with this spirit. With downtown Asheville as a backdrop, it is our hope that this event encourages attendees to collaborate and engage with each other and the world differently, and to innovate and inspire,” said Scott McLean, President Elect of WNC Human Resources Association.

The NCSHRM conference theme is “Lead Differently” and will challenge human resource leaders to rethink how they engage and motivate staff and colleagues. In addition to continuing education sessions, interactive vendor exhibits and networking opportunities, the event will feature three distinctive and dynamic speakers, all of whom are bestselling authors.

Tom Rath is an author and researcher who studies the role of human behavior in business, health and well-being. He previously led Gallup's division of research and consulting on employee engagement, strengths and wellbeing. Rath has written six New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers over the past decade, beginning with the #1 New York Times
bestseller How Full Is Your Bucket? His book StrengthsFinder 2.0 was listed as the top-selling business book worldwide by the Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Amazon.com. One of Rath’s latest bestsellers, Eat Move Sleep: How Small Choices Lead to Big Changes, was inspired by his ongoing research into his own personal health challenges – Rath was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder at age 16. The book describes the impact of eating, moving and sleeping on health and everyday energy and offers practical ideas on how to make better health choices.

Twice featured by Oprah Winfrey on the OWN Network, Janet Mock is the New York Times bestselling author of Redefining Realness and the host of So POPular! — a weekly MSNBC digital series about popular culture. Janet’s story of growing up trans caught the nation’s attention in a 2011 article in Marie Claire. Since then she’s become one of the most influential trans women and millennial leaders in media. TIME called her one of “12 new faces of black leadership” and one of “the most influential people on the Internet,” while Fast Company named her one of 2015’s “most creative people in business.” She is a sought-after speaker and the founder of #GirlsLikeUs, a social media project that empowers trans women. Janet is now a contributing editor for Marie Claire, a host for MSNBC and a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

Simon T. Bailey is the founder of what he calls the “brilliance” movement, whose mission is to teach one billion people how to be brilliant in an average world. He believes companies should invest in Personal Brilliance (bringing your best self to work every day); Leadership Brilliance (finding ways to bring out the best in people); Team Brilliance (letting individuals thrive together); and Service Brilliance (turning customer service into customer love). A sought after speaker, Bailey was inducted into the prestigious National Speakers Association’s Speaker Hall of Fame in 2015. His popular “Building Business Relationships” micro-learning course has been viewed by 10,000+ professionals in 100 countries. He has spoken on six continents to 1,000+ organizations including AT&T, IBM, MasterCard, Microsoft and Toyota.
