Friends,
neighbors … and Russian spies? Pack of Lies, a drama by Hugh
Whitemore about espionage and the damaging effects it inflicts on both the
spies and the spied upon, is scheduled for three matinee performances
by The Autumn Players of Asheville Community Theatre (ACT) as part of
the Readers Theatre Showcase series. Performances will be Friday and Saturday, October
27 and 28 at ACT’s 35below, and Sunday, October 29, 2017 at UNC
Asheville in the Reuter Center. Curtain time is 2:30 pm for
all performances. All tickets are $7.00 and are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org. Any remaining tickets
will be sold by cash at the door beginning at 2:00 pm prior to each
performance.
Auditions
for Pack of Lies will take place from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at ACT/35below
on Tuesday, October 10 and are open to the public. Pack
of Lies will be performed as readers’ theatre.
Pack of
Lies, based
on a true story, focuses on the warm, close friendship between two married
couples – one British, the other American. When one couple is suspected of
spying for the Russians their friendship is turned upside down, with
painful consequences for all involved. Although set in the 1960’s, this
play has much relevance for today’s world.
Director
RoseLynn Katz has directed eight previously performed Readers Theatre productions.
Pack
of Lies will be her ninth. She has also acted at ACT’s Mainstage in I Hate Hamlet and has appeared in
several RTS productions. A Visit with
Golda Meir, a one woman show, was written and performed by RoseLynn, as
well as The Devil Touched My Tongue: The
World and Wit of Dorothy Parker. Both shows have been produced at
35below and other local venues.
The
Autumn Players is ACT’s volunteer outreach group consisting of over 100
seasoned actors, writers, and educators dedicated to taking theatre into the community.
Since 1992 the company has provided entertainment, enrichment, and instruction
for thousands of students, seniors, and in-betweens at venues within an hour or
more from Asheville.
