NC Stage Company presents two holiday productions

The Twelve Dates of Christmas and All Is Calm Nov. 29 – Dec. 30

Whether you wish to feel the warmth and spirit of the holiday season, find humor with friends in the absurdities of modern dating, or simply enjoy an evening out in the beautiful and festive downtown Asheville, North Carolina Stage Company (NC Stage) has a seat for you. A holiday favorite, All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 returns to NC Stage this year bringing reminders for peace and joy this season while a second show The Twelve Dates of Christmas brings laughter and light heartedness. The performances will alternate nights between November 29 and December 30, 2017.

After seeing her fiancé kiss another woman at the televised Thanksgiving Day Parade, Mary's life falls apart -- just in time for the holidays. Over the next year, she stumbles back into the dating world, where "romance" ranges from weird and creepy to absurd and comical. It seems nothing can help Mary's growing cynicism, until the charm and innocence of a five-year-old boy unexpectedly brings a new outlook on life and love. This heartwarming one-woman play offers a hilarious and modern alternative to the old standards of the holiday season.

All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914

This captivating story relives a poignant moment in history when Allied and German soldiers laid down their arms to celebrate the holiday together during WWI. This dramatic presentation presents traditional patriotic and holiday songs from both sides of the Western Front and is interspersed with text read from letters, journals, and interviews from the soldiers who lived it.

This year’s production features Michael MacCauley, Catori Swann, and Ben Mackel. Music director Melodie Galloway, professor of music at UNCA and director of the Asheville Choral Society will lead the all-male choir. Artistic Director and co-founder of NC Stage, Charlie Flynn-McIver, will serve as the show’s director. All is Calm recounts the words of men whom history may have overlooked. Author Peter Rothstein explained, “Most of these men's names never appeared in history books or major newspapers, but they are indeed heroes, and this is my humble attempt to have their names go down in history.”
