How Does Service Fit With the MLK Holiday?
The King Day
of Service is a way to transform Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and
teachings into community service that helps solve social problems.
·
Strengthening
Communities: Dr. King
challenged individuals to take action to lift up their neighbors and strengthen
their communities through service.
·
Empowering
Individuals: Acts of service
can help others lift themselves up no matter what their circumstances, and it
does so much for those who serve as well.
·
Bridging
Barriers: Serving side by side,
community service bridges barriers of inequality between people and teaches us
that in the end, we are more alike than we are different.
