Dr. James Richard (Rick) Lowe joins Blue Ridge and McDowell hospitals

Mission Health is pleased to announce the addition of James Richard (Rick) Lowe, MD. Dr. Lowe joins Blue Ridge General Surgery and McDowell Surgical Services from Vidant General Surgery Outer Banks in Nags Head, North Carolina where he served as a general surgeon.  Dr. Lowe will be providing care to patients from all across Yancey, Mitchell and McDowell counties.

Wolfenbarger, MSN, RN, FACHE, President, McDowell Hospital.  “Dr. Lowe understands the importance of providing the best care to every patient, every time and will help us continue to service our patients in the Spruce Pine and Marion communities.”

Dr. Lowe earned his medical degree from The University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas, Nevada. He completed his residency in general surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Lowe is board certified in surgery. His personal interests include outdoor activities with his family, such as gardening, hiking, and camping.

"I am both appreciative and excited to be practicing at both Blue Ridge General Surgery and mcDowell Surgical Services," said Dr. Lowe. "I think of surgery as something that does not treat one specific area but the entire body. Many aptients come to the hospital with a specific need, and I help treat that need, but I also help provide care for the whole person, which greatly affects overall wellness and quality of life."

Dr. Lowe joins William Horan, MD, with the Blue Ridge General Surgery team and Daniel McLaughlin, MD, with the McDowell Surgical Services team.  The surgeons of Blue Ridge Regional Hospital and McDowell Hospital provide comprehensive surgical services spanning from preoperative to postoperative care, and are prepared to manage the complete range of surgical needs in-between.
