MHU Department of Music to present final concert of spring semester

Mars Hill University’s Department of Music has announced the dates for its final concert series of the spring 2016 semester. All concerts will take place in Moore Auditorium, located on Cascade Street in Mars Hill, NC. All concerts are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.

 

Tuesday, April 19^th @ 7:30 PM - Wind Symphony Concert

Directed by Michael L. Robinson, Director of Bands. Musical selections include Sea Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Children's March by Percy Grainger, Fusion by Brian Balmages, Overcome arranged by Bill Locklear and The Sinfonians by Clifton Williams. The soloist for the evening will be Alan Theisen, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Music, who will perform Bernhard Heiden's Diversion for Alto Saxophone and Concert Band with the ensemble. 

Thursday, April 21 @ 7:30 PM - Percussion Ensemble Concert

Directed by Dr. Brian Tinkel, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies, and Mr. Justin Mabry, Adjunct Professor of Music. The concert will showcase different types of performing ensembles for percussion. The concert begins with a series of Trinidadian Steel Band tunes arranged for the Marimba Band. The West African Ensemble will play several styles of traditional music. The concert will conclude with the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble playing in the style of Samba Batúcada.
