Blue Ridge Rollergirls to impress at East Coast Derby Extravaganza

On June 20-22, 2014, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls will travel to Feasterville, Pennsylvania, to compete in the 2014 East Coast Derby Extravaganza (ECDX) roller derby tournament. The Philly Roller Girls are hosting the tournament, which will feature 22 national and international teams.

The Blue Ridge Rollergirls will create chaos and mayhem on Saturday, June 21, when they bout against Pennsylvania’s Brandywine Roller Girls (#49) and Finland’s Helsinki Roller Derby (#137). As coach Gabriel "Centaur of Attention" Ciampi notes, “We are extremely excited to play at ECDX. We look forward to playing highly competitive derby on a large stage. And we look forward to the wonderful camaraderie that exists in these tournaments.”

The Blue Ridge Rollergirls All Stars will enter ECDX fresh off undefeated performances at the Skate to Thrill roller derby tournament in Wright City, Missouri, and the 2014 Florida Beach Brawl tournament in Hollywood, FL. Recently, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls also destroyed New York’s Ithaca League of Women’s Rollers (#84) at home, with a score of 290 to 171. The very next week, Blue Ridge obliterated Duke City Derby (#79) from Albuquerque, NM, with a score of 233 to 56. Many of these big wins have caused Blue Ridge to rise in the rankings of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Currently, Blue Ridge is ranked #41 in the world.

At ECDX, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls will play Saturday, June 21, at 12:30 p.m. against Brandywine and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against Helsinki. WFTDA.tv will broadcast these bouts on the Internet. The Blue Ridge Rollergirls have “rolled local” in Asheville since 2006. Catch the next home bout on August 2, 2014, at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville.
