Asheville-based Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care was recently named one of the 2015 Best Employers in North Carolina in a special issue of Business North Carolina magazine. This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in North Carolina, each of which benefits the state's economy, workforce and businesses.
"We're tremendously honored to be named on this list of companies that excel in their employment practices as well as their business acumen," said Tim Johnston, CEO of Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care. "This publication highlighted the regular off-site team-building opportunities we offer employees, as well as our focus on volunteering both in Western North Carolina and abroad in places such as Haiti. We feel that these initiatives make us a stronger organization, which in turn allows us to better serve our customers."
The Best Employers in North Carolina program was created by Business North Carolina, the NC State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Best Companies Group. Companies from across the state entered the two-part survey process to determine the honorees.
The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25 percent of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75 percent of the evaluation.
The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in North Carolina and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.
