Appalachian Regional Commission selects AdvantageWest President & CEO Scott T. Hamilton as new executive director

The president and CEO of AdvantageWest Economic Development Group, Scott T. Hamilton, has been appointed executive director of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). With its headquarters in Washington, D.C., ARC is a regional economic development agency that represents a partnership of federal, state, and local government working for sustainable community and economic development in Appalachia. Hamilton begins his appointment on September 8. AdvantageWest is a nonprofit regional economic development organization that has served the western region of North Carolina since 1994. Each year ARC provides funding for economic development projects in the 13-state Appalachian Region, including Western North Carolina, in areas such as business development, education and job training, telecommunications, infrastructure, community development, housing, and transportation. During Hamilton's nine-year tenure at AdvantageWest--the past five years as head of the organization--ARC grants have helped support AdvantageWest programs such as Blue Ridge Food Ventures.  ARC Federal Co-Chair Earl F. Gohl stated he is "very pleased that Scott is joining the Commission as its executive director. he is a long-time resident of the Region whose career has focused on creating stronger economies in rural North Carolina His history of leadership in working collaboratively and building partnerships to attract investment fits nicely with the mission of ARC." The states' co-chair of the ARC, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, says, "on behalf of the Appalachian Regional Commission, I welcome Scott Hamilton as the new executive director. Having lived and worked in Appalachia for decades, Scott understands the region and its assets and challenges. he has the experience, leadership skills, and vision to develop and advance programs that respond to the needs of Appalachian residents." Thomas (Tom) Alexander, chair of the AdvantageWest board of directors. Artists invited to show wares at RiverFest on Aug. 9th

 

RiverLink is seeking arts & crafts vendors to join us for our 15th annual RiverFest & Anything That Floats Parade on Saturday August 9th, 2014.  

 

The festival will be held at the French Broad River Park on Amboy Road between 1pm-7pm (staggered vendor set-up begins at 8:30 am).  The festival will be held RAIN or SHINE so prepare for inclement weather.

 

Similar to last year RiverFest 2014 will include: Live Music & Variety Acts, the Anything That Floats Parade on the River, Opening Ceremony Parade, Kids Area, Kids of All Ages Play Area, Food, Beer, Beverages & Vendors.

 

We welcome arts & crafts vendors and commercial vendors to join us for this event. The vendor booth fees for Commercial Businesses are $200 and $100 for Arts & Crafts.

 

The deadline for vendor applications is Tuesday, August 5 and payment is due with the application. Download the application here.

 

Booth Space 10' x 10' and there is no electricity. The vendors are responsible for all setup/takedown, tent, tables, chairs, signage, etc. We will be establishing staggered vendor times due to the congested area; all vehicles will need to be cleared by 12:00pm. Upon arriving, someone will guide you to your booth location.

 

Anticipate anywhere between 800 to over 1200 visitors to RiverFest 2014. If you have specific needs beyond this, please contact us prior to the event. We hope you will join us to celebrate RiverFest 2014!
