David Holt and the Lightning Bolts perform at Mars Hill University


 

Mars Hill University will host a concert featuring popular old-time music performers David Holt and the Lightning Bolts on April 7, 2017. The concert is part of the university's Presidential Lecture and Performance Series. Showtime is 7:00 p.m. in Moore Auditorium on the university campus. This is a ticketed event: general admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door; VIP tickets for preferred seating are $25. David Holt and the Lightning Bolts combine the sounds of guitar, banjo, fiddle, slide guitar, and mandolin, along with rhythm instruments, including hambone (body slapping), spoons, stumpfiddle, rhythm bones, jaw harp, and even paper bag. Along with Holt, the band consists of Laura Boosinger, Josh Goforth, Byron Hedgepeth, and Jeff Hersk.

Holt is a four-time Grammy Award winning musician, storyteller, historian, television host, and entertainer. He is dedicated to performing and preserving traditional American music and stories. Holt plays ten acoustic instruments and has released numerous recordings of traditional mountain music and southern folktales.

The Presidential Lecture and Performance Series complements Mars Hill University's emphasis on the liberal arts by bringing distinguished and knowledgeable individuals to lecture on a wide range of topics and to provide high quality performances in the cultural arts.

Joseph F. Renzulli, II M.D., FACS, joins Avadim Technologies as chief medical officer



Avadim Technologies Inc. (“Avadim”), a true “patient first” life sciences company, is pleased to announce the engagement of Joseph F. Renzulli, II M.D., FACS, as Chief Medical Officer (“CMO”) of the company. Dr. Renzulli is Associate Professor of Urology at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University, where he specializes in Genitourinary Malignancies as a certified robotic surgeon. He is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society, and serves on  the urology staff at The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital. His current research interests include the effects of neoadjuvant therapies prior to prostatectomy for high-risk prostate cancer and the role of microvesicles in prostate cancer. Dr. Renzulli is active in numerous clinical trials, has been published over 60 times in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented at many national and local meetings.

Lenoir-Rhyne University to host career fest - March 22nd



The Lenoir-Rhyne University Asheville 2017 Career Fest will take place on March 22 from 10am to 2pm on the second and third floors 36 Montford Ave., Asheville.
 
Their goal is to hold a targeted career fair that will bring together highly educated applicants (i.e. LR grad students) with companies seeking to hire the best possible talent here in Western North Carolina.  There is no cost to attend as a job seeker or an employer.
