Printville honored as Small Business of the Month

We are pleased to honor Printville as Small Business of the Month. Read on for our interview with Printville co-founder Nathan White.
Tell us a little of the company's history.
Printville's first store was born in 2009 in South Asheville…within Biltmore Park Town Square…starting with just two employees.  In 2011, we added another retail store in Downtown Asheville - within in the Grove Arcade - and grew to five employees.   In 2012, we added a production location in Arden, NC and hired three more employees.  By the end of 2014, we will have 13 employees and added a third new retail store in Fletcher, NC (3 retail stores total).

What are you most proud of about the company?

Printville prides itself in providing a unique and different printing experience…we provide unique products and services at each of our stores.   This includes: primarily offering commercial printing, retail copying, bulk mailing services, wide format and signage printing, and FedEx & USPS shipping and packaging services at each retail store!

Best advice you’ve gotten for leading a small business

"The Plan is the Plan, Until the Plan Changes" - Since our beginning, we've been diligent to stick to our strategic plans and not deviate from it.  Occasionally, we'd discuss different ideas and sometimes the plan changes and improves for the better.  We've been successful by being focused and sticking to our business plan. But also, we thrive with a changing environment and thinking outside the box.

Your favorite thing in your workspace.

Our customers and our team.  Printville's team is unique and each person on staff takes ownership, invests and enjoys what they do….they have a "voice".  Because of this culture, our customers see the difference at Printville and keep coming back.  It's an enjoyable experience to be a part of the Printville family.

What’s next on the horizon?

In November 2014, Printville is opening it's 3rd retail location - in the heart of Fletcher, NC.  This free-standing facility is a brand new building - built just for Printville.  It will house a retail storefront as well as centralize all of Printville production equipment for it's other two locations in western north carolina.  We plan on continuing to add additional retail stores in 2015.

The Asheville Chamber’s tagline is “Connect. Engage. Impact. Thrive.” Pick one of these words {or all of them if you are feeling verbose : ) } and tell us what it means to you as a small business in Asheville.
Impact:  Printville's mission is to make our customers look great...through the products we produce and services we provide.  These products and services impact our customers' business in a positive wayand in turn, helps us grow, when our customers grow!

Grove Arcade's Deck the Halls Lighting Celebration is Nov. 21st

Kicking off Grove Arcade’s 2014 Winter Wonderland

Friday, November 21st from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Historic Grove Arcade on Battery Hill decks its halls and lights the building for its 2014 Winter Wonderland. Sing holiday carols with the Asheville Symphony Chorus. Make holiday ornaments. View gingerbread houses from Omni Grove Park Inn National Gingerbread House competition. Have photos with Santa and listen to holiday stories. Enjoy hot cider and refreshments. “It promises to be a memorable evening,” says Darr Conradson, President of Grove Arcade’s Merchants Association. “It will be a signature Asheville evening!”

It’s an evening of holiday cheer. For a $1 donation to MANNA Food Bank’s Back Pack Program, children make a holiday ornament to decorate a Grove Arcade Christmas tree or to take home. Mountain Made and artists organized by the Asheville Area Arts Council help design and make these ornaments. A continuing tradition, a selection of gingerbread houses from the Omni Grove Park Inn’s annual National Gingerbread House competition are at the Grove Arcade through January 4. No Winter Wonderland is complete without Santa! He visits the Grove Arcade; advising children on their wish lists, reading stories, and having photos taken. The Asheville Symphony Chorus is the evening’s main event! Over forty chorus members are on hand to celebrate the evening with traditional and contemporary carols. The chorus sings for approximately 45 minutes, finishing with a rousing version of the classic Hallelujah Chorus. “We are so excited to be a part of this celebration, our music will soar in the Arcade-what a thrill!” says Asheville Symphony Chorus’s Cynthia Sprau. All the while, visitors can enjoy cider and cookies.

Deck the Hall and light the lights November 21st. Winter Wonderland runs through January 4, 2015. Santa also visits the Arcade November 29 and 30, and December 7, 14, and 21 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Biltmore 15k/5k Race is a local tradition for a good cause

Runners mark your calendars! The Kiwanis Club of Asheville presents the 18th Annual Kiwanis 15k/5k Classic Sunday, May 17th, 2015 at 7:15 am upon the grounds of Asheville's very own Biltmore Estate. This race draws all levels of competitors every year from across the region, and never fails to thrill onlookers as runners post fast times and battle it out from the starting gun to exciting kicks to the finish tape. Thanks to the efforts of race organizers, sponsors, and the support of local businesses, this race offers a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience year after year. The race attracts a positive influx of traffic into the local economy, and supports the good work of the Kiwanis Charities.

Course Overview-The race takes place against the backdrop of the world-renowned Biltmore Estate. Striding across cobbled courtyards, passing formal gardens and skirting the boundaries of the tranquil French Broad River, competitors may find themselves daydreaming: imagining they are making their rounds as Old World barons and baronesses from another time. Both courses are run entirely on the scenic grounds of the Biltmore Estate. Beginning at the Winery Village area, the 15k course climbs to Deerpark Restaurant then follows the undulating main road to Biltmore House. Here, runners will loop in front of its massive front doors. Runners will then circle through the Walled Garden, pass by the Azalea Garden and lagoon along the French Broad River, and finish by returning to the Winery. The first half of the course has two challenging hills, while the second half is downhill-to-flat. The proximate 5K course is a flat, out-and-back course starting at the Winery and paralleling the French Broad River, and is a great venue to grab a new PR!

Kiwanis Charities-Proceeds from the race will be used to help fund the Kiwanis Charities. Specifically, shares of these revenues will be used to support the following local Kiwanis Initiatives: Sleep Tight Kids, Smart Start, 4-H Calf Program, "Paun-demonium" Chess, School Spelling Bees, Bike Giveaway, Family Fun Day, Christmas Shopping Spree, Down Syndrome Buddy Walk, Action Club, Key Club, Terrific Kids, Asheville Buncombe County Christian Ministry, Salvation Army, and Boys & Girls Clubs. These youth-centric programs aim to improve the quality of life for local kids, and your participation in this race will help them to stay afloat and back the leaders of our collective future.

Registration-Registration will open on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 at imATHLETE.com. A cap of 1,100 runners has been set for the Biltmore/Kiwanis races. The race has a history of selling slots out quickly, so act fast to secure spots. Check the website and our social media pages for availability regularly, as we expect this popular event to sell out quickly as it has done in recent years. There is NO race day registration. The races are also part of the Royal Trifecta Challenge, which offers prizes and recognition for runners who compete in all three iDaph events at Biltmore: The Asheville Marathon & Half, The Kiwanis Classic 15k/5k, and Asheville Duathlon,10k Trail Run and Inaugural Bike event the Gravel Grinder.

Fees: Biltmore/Kiwanis 15K $59 early registration (until April 17, 2015) $65 late registration (April 18 – May 13, 2015) if available. Spectator Tickets are available for $23+ tax, and may be purchased at packet pick-up, or $18+ tax for current 12-month pass-holders.
