Film screening and panel discussion about the future state of education - May 22nd



Families and educational professionals are invited to an event that will challenge the current thinking about how America prepares students for success. Join Carolina Day School for a special screening of “The Race to Nowhere– The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture,” next Wednesday, May 22. Recently named as one of “10 Educational Documentaries You Don’t Want to Miss”, The Race to Nowhere has been shown nationwide and internationally in more than 6,000 schools, universities, cinemas, hospitals, corporations and community centers, and has become the centerpiece of a nationwide, grassroots movement for the transformation of education.

Following the film, Tom Trigg, Head of School of Carolina Day School; Anne Ponder, Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Asheville; and Steven L. Solnick, President of Warren Wilson College will participate in a panel discussion about the future state of education. They will share insights about the collective courage it takes to change the state of education - to structure education in a way that will teach students to be critical thinkers and innovators, to identify and solve problems, and to have self determination, which is the only way to truly prepare students for 21st century careers.
