Waste
water processing has been in the headlines recently with the unfortunate spill
that occurred in the French Broad River last week. Wilma Dykeman was
right again when she said, "We stopped paying attention to where our water
comes and goes when we stopped going to the creek to get it, and just turned on
the tap." So plan on going with us to learn how the wastewater leaving
your home is reincorporated back into the water of the natural water cycle.
Take a tour of MSD and see for yourself.
RiverLink
is coordinating with the Metropolitan Sewage District of Buncombe County, NC
(MSDBC) to host a tour of the wastewater treatment plant on June 4th, at
10:00am.
The tour is available to any adolescent groups over the age
of eleven (school groups, scout troops, clubs, extracurricular groups, etc...)
interested adults and the general public, who wish to become more acquainted
with the dynamics of, processes behind, and impacts associated with the local
urban water cycle, spanning from its initial use to its journey back to the
French Broad River through Asheville's wastewater
infrastructure. Participants will meet at the MSD facility located at 2028
Riverside Drive.
The tour is free of cost but space is limited, so pre-registration
is necessary. For questions about the RiverLink Urban Water Cycle
program, or to sign up for the tour on June 4th, 2013, please contact:
