The
Asheville Community Theatre Board has voted to donate a portion of the proceeds
of opening night of The Santaland Diaries to Flat Rock Playhouse. The Santaland Diaries will open
Thursday, December 13 at 7:30 pm and all tickets are $15.00. Tickets are available online, over the phone,
or in person at the Asheville Community Theatre Box Office.
“We
have great respect for the work done by Flat Rock Playhouse,” said Susan
Harper, Managing Director at Asheville Community Theatre. “We have a lot of connections with Flat Rock
– when we think of Flat Rock, we think of Ralph Redpath, Neela & Billy
Munoz, Sharon Stokes – and many dear friends and colleagues who make the
Western North Carolina theatre community a better place.”
The
Santaland Diaries
is a dark comedy penned by David Sedaris that follows an out-of-work slacker who takes a job as an elf in
Macy’s Santaland. His hilarious observations of the shoppers and employees are,
quite frankly, more naughty than nice. In
Asheville, the
play has transformed from a quirky ticket to a bona fide holiday tradition. Asheville Community Theatre’s production
stars Daniel Hensley and is directed by Betsy Puckett.
