The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, recently awarded an $8,500 grant to the Western Carolina Medical Society’s Project Access® program.
Developed in 1996
by the Western Carolina Medical Society (formerly the Buncombe County Medical
Society), Project Access is a proven, highly replicable national model of
healthcare delivery to the uninsured
Project Access leverages that “invisible”
care into a coordinated network of over 600 volunteer physicians providing
access to comprehensive medical care (primary care, specialty care, hospital
care, labs, medications, durable medical equipment, and more) for the
low-income uninsured of Buncombe County.
Project Access has served increasing numbers of patients every year
since its inception in 1996. In 2011, over 650 physicians served more than
6,000 individual patients through the program at a value of over $14 million in
services and goods. At least 4,000 low-income, uninsured Buncombe residents will
be served by Project Access this year.
