2013 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur seeks volunteers
Recruiting is underway to enlist 300 volunteers for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association and hosted by Biltmore Forest Country Club on Oct. 5-10. Admission to the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur is free and spectators are encouraged to attend.
The club has had a wonderful response from the local community, with 200 volunteers confirmed to date. They continue to recruit volunteers from all over the Carolinas. Volunteers will be involved in all areas of the championship – from the golf course to hospitality to the clubhouse.
Past USGA President and current Biltmore Forest member Jim Hyler remarked, “It’s asking a lot of a club to give up their course for a week. Volunteers give their time, area businesses give their money, the community gets behind it. It’s a big deal. A national championship like the Women’s Mid-Amateur is every bit as important and prestigious to Ellen Port or Meghan Stasi as Webb Simpson winning the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club. Clubs like Biltmore Forest give back to the game and to amateur golf; that’s really important and it’s very special.”
Knowledge of golf is not required to volunteer, as there are multiple opportunities in all areas of the club. Volunteer opportunities include forecaddies/marshals, food and beverage, hospitality/player services, player registration, practice facilities, scoring, security and traffic control, transportation/parking/shuttles and volunteer headquarters. Volunteers will go through an orientation and training program prior to championship week. Volunteers will receive credentials, meal vouchers, and access to the championship throughout the week.
Volunteers are needed from Wednesday, Oct. 2 through Thursday, Oct. 10. Online volunteer applications are available at www.biltmoreforestcc.com. For more information, contact Trish Shand at tshand@biltmoreforestcc.com or call (828) 350-3278.
