WNC Legislative Delegation Receives Committee Assignments

The North Carolina General Assembly has been easing into the Long Session. Legislators were in Raleigh last week and the House was busy handing out committee assignments. Western North Carolina saw several of our members pick up key leadership positions.

Representative McGrady (R-Henderson) picked up one of the four Appropriation’s chairs. This is a huge honor to Representative McGrady and the Chamber congratulates him on his new leadership role. Representative Presnell (R-Yancey) was named co-chair of Commerce and Job Development and Representative Whitmire (R-Transylvania) became co-chair of the new committee on Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs. Representative Whitmire also was name a vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

Republicans were not the only members of the WNC Delegation to receive leadership roles. Representative Fisher (D-Buncombe) and Representative Queen (D-Haywood) will both serve as vice chairs for the committee on Aging and Representative Fisher also landed the vice chair of the Appropriations subcommittee on General Government.
