"Evolution of the Landscape" - July feature at Artetude Gallery

Tuesday July 1–Sunday, July 27, 2014
Opening Reception July 18, from 6:00 to 8:00pm
First Friday Artwalk, July 4, from 5:00 to 8:00pm

The formal composition of landscape painting/photography emphasize space, depth, and the concepts of foreground, middle ground, and background.

Evolution of the Landscape, allows the viewer to see distinctive visual imagery through the eyes of three uniquely talented artists.

Ranoma Bronkar Bannayan’s intrigue of landscape begins with the horizon, that distant point where the ephemeral caresses solidity.  Time of day is also important.  “I am absorbed not only by the light and ambience of dawn and dusk, but the subliminal emotional associations in beginning or ending another day”.  Her visual language is informed by traditional landscape paintings, infused with contemporary visual ideas making her work very much of our time.

Jo Ridge Kelley’s impressionistic plein air approach utilizes bold new and unexpected color relationships. The interplay of structure, color, light and texture invites the viewer to ponder the power and beauty of nature.

William Vandever uses photography to capture the commonly missed.  He explores the dynamics of light, shape, and texture.  By using his own visual vocabulary he evokes a new perception, a dramatic interpretation, allowing one to view these subjects in a remarkably unique and unexpected manner.

A portion of Artetude’s proceeds is donated to the SECU Mission Cancer Center in Asheville.  Hours: Tuesday -Saturday, 10am to 6pm, Sunday 12-4pm.
