People
watching becomes a treat for all the senses with City of Color, a new
production from Asheville Aerial Arts that mixes color, diverse music and
costuming, and the aerial acts the troupe is well known for. City
of Color will be performed November 5-8, 2015 with evening performances
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and a matinee performance on
Sunday at 2:30 pm. Tickets for Thursday’s show are $10.00 for children and
students and $20.00 for adults and seniors. For all other performances, tickets
are $15.00 for children and students and $22.00 for adults and seniors. Tickets
are available online, over the phone, or in person at the Asheville Community
Theatre Box Office.
When
Asheville Aerial Arts presented their production Soaring in January of 2015, the company was unsure of what the
ticket sales might look like. “Our first seated audience was thrilled with what
they saw on opening night and passed along their enthusiasm to their friends. Honestly,
their reaction is what led to the full houses we saw over the next couple of
days. We had some folks come and see the show 2-3 times in the same weekend! We
were blown away by the audiences’ response,” stated Christine Aiken, Asheville
Aerial Arts’ Artistic Director. “We decided to open a post-show Q & A
session after seeing how many people stayed after the curtain to see if they
could talk to these talented artists.”
In
City
of Color, a woman strolls around the town she loves, watches passersby,
and tunes in to what she believes is their story. She sees, among others, a
mother and daughter discovering their love of adventure together, a woman
recovering from a devastating personal crisis, and a young boy playing in a
park and having the time of his life. As the sounds of the city fill her ears,
they are quickly replaced by the beautiful music and powerful artistic
presentations. City of Color is a show not to be missed by any member of the
family
“The
acts in City of Color range from contortion, trapeze, silks,
acrobalance, adagio, and hoops to physical comedy, dark acts, and uplifting and
elegant aerial artistry,” said Aiken. “This show will offer audiences more of our
troupe’s exhilarating aerial acts, mixed with our classic ground acts.”
