Mars
Hill University will host a Veterans' Reception on April 25 in Bentley
Fellowship Hall from 3 to 5 pm. The reception will honor all veterans living in
Madison County, and especially those who took part in a recent public history
project to record veterans' memories.
The
reception will be hosted by History Instructor Patrick Cash and students in his
public history course, who have conducted numerous interviews during the spring
2016 semester. The interviews at MHU this semester were a joint effort of the
history department, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at MHU, and a
number of community partners, including Mars Hill Baptist Church and Madison
County Veterans Services.
"Mars
Hill students are welcoming veterans to our campus in an effort to recognize
and thank them for their service," Cash said. "We especially want to
recognize those who have helped us with this project to preserve their
memories, and we would like to encourage other veterans to participate in
future semesters."
The
reception program will include student presentations, as well as portions of
interviews that have been conducted on campus with Madison County veterans.
Transportation
can be arranged for veterans who do not have a way to attend the event. Please
contact Cash for more information about the event, or to arrange for
transportation, at pcash@mhu.edu, or at
828-689-1581.
