Comedian Rob Delaney book signing at Malaprop's - Sept. 5th

Malaprop's Bookstore/Cafe is hosting a book signing/Q&A with Rob Delaney on September 5, at 7 PM. This event is open to the public.

ROB DELANEY
Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage.

"Twitter's most outrageous voice goes big with hilarious, raw memoir...Delaney writes harrowingly and hilariously about his plunge into alcoholism as a teenager and his rehabilitation during his twenties." --Rolling Stone

"A book as funny, sincere, weird, wet, and wonderful as Rob Delaney himself."
--Jimmy Kimmel

"Rob's transition from Tweets to book is like a gold medal sprinter winning the marathon the next day.  I am jealous and angry." --Seth Meyers

"All it takes to be as funny as Rob Delaney is luck, good timing, deep compassion, reckless imaginative agility, a flawless grasp of the inner workings of language, and criminally vast quantities of mojo.
What a jerk." --Teju Cole, author of Open City

"If you're ever feeling overwhelmed or depressed because the internet is starting to feel like an ocean of cruelty and despair at high tide, I suggest checking out some of the long reads by Rob Delaney. The comedian/total beefcake might be most famous for his very active and funny Twitter account, but when he's not tweeting...he's writing eloquent and empathetic essays on depression, alcoholism and Katy Perry....Delaney's comedy is often dirty and crude--maybe some of the crudest--but he gets away with it because he's also thoughtful and smart....This is because Rob Delaney is very good at his job."

In early 2009, stand-up comedian Rob Delaney decided to join Twitter after hearing that fellow comedian Louie C.K. had signed up for it. He previously thought it was for "notifying people you were going to [use the bathroom] at Burger King." Four years and over 925,000 followers later, Delaney has followers as varied as Margaret Atwood, Lena Dunham, Colson Whitehead, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, Susan Orlean, Mindy Kaling, and the blurbers above, and has been named by Comedy Central, Rolling Stone, the Huffington Post, Vice, Paste, and Funny or Die as one of the funniest people on Twitter.

In his new collection of autobiographical essays about childhood, fatherhood, sex, addiction and recovery, ROB DELANEY: Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage. (Spiegel & Grau Hardcover), readers are introduced to how raw, laugh out loud funny, and even poignant Delaney's long-form writing is.  Those familiar with his widely tweeted essays on addiction, depression, a woman's right to choose, and the U.S. health care system, among other subjects, know Delaney as a true writer who has something to say--and can say it well.  Those who only know him from his Twitter feed will be pleasantly surprised to find he's as insanely funny in the long-form as he is in 140 characters.

In his confident and irreverent voice, Delaney regales readers with anecdotes as wide-ranging as his youthful obsession (and pen pal relationship) with heavy metal band Danzig to drunken bungee jumping off the Manhattan Bridge to breaking into an abandoned Danvers, Massachusetts mental institution (with his mother!), and from his court-ordered stint in rehab to witnessing the miracle of his son's birth.  Interspersed with some of his "Greatest Tweets," these thoughtful, hilarious essays make clear why Rob Delaney is so beloved by his fans and why he is not just a sought-after comedian and Twitter hero, but a writer worth watching.
