We are pleased to recognize The Family Health Centers as Small Business of the Month. Read on for our interview with The Family Health Centers.

Diana Fisher and Gayle Connell of The Family Health Centers
with Chamber Board Chair Ben Hamrick of Johnson Price Sprinkle PA
Tell us a little of the history of the company.
The Family Health Centers is the largest independent family practice in Western North Carolina. For more than 35 years, we’ve provided care for thousands of local families. Our board-certified doctors and mid-level providers see patients at three conveniently-located offices including Asheville, Arden and Candler. The Family Health Centers’ comprehensive suite of services includes nutrition counseling, pharmaceutical consultations, well-care exams and an array of ancillary studies including lab tests, bone-density tests and x-rays.  We are pleased to offer these services in our own facilities using the latest technologies and state-of-the-art equipment.

What are you most proud of about the company?
The Family Health Centers are recognized in a number of disciplines by The National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA.) We are also recognized, for more than five years in a row, by the Blue Quality Provider Program at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina for meeting or exceeding evidence-based quality standards for excellence in the delivery of patient care.  We are pleased to have been recognized in the state of North Carolina as the first family practice to achieve the designation of Level III Patient-centered Medical Home.

Best advice you’ve gotten for leading a small business
Focus on patient access to quality, compassionate care.

What’s next on the horizon?
The Family Health Centers welcomes Jason T. Cook MD, our newest primary care physician, in October 2014. Dr. Cook’s special interests include pediatrics, sports medicine and dermatology. Dr. Cook is accepting new patients at our Arden office at 2161 Hendersonville Road.

The Family Health Centers is restaging our brand in 2014. Formerly known as Asheville Family Health Center, Arden Family Health Center and Hominy Valley Family Health Center, we are now “The Family Health Centers.” Please watch for our new messaging and advertising in the Asheville Area marketplace.

Patient engagement is a foundation of the patient-provider relationship in family medicine. We work to engage patients in all aspects of their wellness and care. From listening and motivating, and encouraging good nutrition and self-care, to working to find the most appropriate treatments, we engage each patient as a whole individual.
