What makes The Asheville Salt Cave unique

The Asheville Salt cave is made up of all natural materials; wood, water, rock and 20
tons of Polish salt rock crystals which are 250 million years old and come from 3- 5
miles below the earths surface. They are free of bacteria and unpolluted. The microclimate
is created by using Sole’ ( a highly concentrated solution of salt and water) to
feed the cave (through two water features), keeping the cave at a constant temperature
(70 degrees) and a constant humidity (50%).

The interior of our cave is designed to recreate the unique microclimates found in the
Wiellczka and Bochnia salt caves in Poland, which are at a depth of 350 meters. The
unique healing attribute of the Asheville Salt Cave is due to the enriched air that
circulates inside the cave. The air is rich in negative salt ions and 84 trace elements,
which are absorbed by the body. 45 minutes in our salt cave is equivalent to being at
the ocean for 4 days (without the pollution).

By breathing in this unique micro-climate and allowing our skin to absorb it, we are
helping our bodies to maintain a balanced pH. When our body’s pH is balanced we are
less prone to illness and infection.

The Asheville Salt Cave is the only one of its kind in the United States. The salt in the
cave is antibacterial, growing and self-sustaining. The cave is made up of 4 different
types of carefully selected mineral salt and Dead Sea Salt, ranging in size from small
rocks of salt forming the ceiling to the wall rocks which range in size from one pound to
300 pounds. The floor is covered with a combination of 70% Polish mineral salt and
30% Dead Sea Salt which is heated. We keep the sea salt to a minimum due to its low
ion content and poor healing properties.

All other salt caves and salt rooms use either sea salt on their walls in combination with
a gypsum like product, or Himalayan Salt which comes from the foothills of the
mountains. All salt rooms and and some salt caves grind dry salt into minute particles
which are sprayed into the room via a mechanical device called a Halo-generator. The
Asheville Salt Cave is the only one in the USA that is free from gypsum, salt panels or a
mixture of sea salt and gypsum.
