Young Frankenstein Runs October 2-25, 2015: A WNC Premiere! The electrifying musical adaptation of Mel Brooks’ monstrously funny cult comedy film is marvelously good entertainment. Frederick Frankenstein, with the help of a hunchbacked side-kick, Igor, and a leggy lab assistant, Inga, finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his grandfather. Between brain transplants, tap lessons, and whinnying horses, this good time musical is a lot of fun! Young Frankenstein is directed by Jerry Crouch with musical direction by Chuck Taft and choreography by Shari Azar.  The show runs October 2-25, 2015 with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Saturdays at ACT presents Imaginer: Asheville Community Theatre (ACT) kicks off their family-friendly theatre series Saturdays at ACT with Tim Arem’s Imaginer. Imaginer is a unique show that combines mime, masks, puppetry, music, audience participation and circus theater skills. Imaginer will be performed on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 12:00 pm. The Autumn Players Meeting: The Autumn Players, a group of seasoned actors who bring theatre to the WNC community, will meet on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 10:00 am at the downtown theatre.  All are welcome to attend!

Auditions for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: Auditions for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be held October 5-6, 2015 at Asheville Community Theatre. This show features a large cast of children and adults.  Auditions are open to all in the community, no previous experience required. All audition material is provided at the auditions. Directed by Lori Hilliard.

Saturdays at ACT presents Greek Myths: Saturdays at ACT continues with Attic Salt Theatre Company’s Greek Myths. Zeus, Icarus, Echo & Narcissus, Hercules … heroes, gods and many of your other favorites are here, with all of the magic and majesty of these traditional tales and all of the silliness Attic Salt can create. Greek Myths will be performed on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10:00 am. Auditions for The Winslow Boy: The Autumn Players will hold auditions for the drama The Winslow Boy on October 13, 2015 from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm.  The Winslow Boy will be performed as reader’s theatre. Auditions are open to all in the community, no previous experience required.  All audition material is provided at the auditions. Directed by Anita Chapman.

Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge: Following in the tradition of such shows as Wait, Wait…. Don’t Tell Me and the BBC’s Would I Lie to You?, comes Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge, a live, unscripted panel show featuring local actors and personalities putting their wits (and their patience) to the test as they try and answer esoteric questions about random topics that interest your host, Adam Arthur. October’s installment will be presented on October 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Storytelling series Listen to This: In the vein of “The Moth” or “This American Life,” Listen to This features stories and original songs from locals. The Autumn Players’ Readers Theatre Showcase Series Presents The Winslow Boy: Based on a real case and set just before World War I, this moving legal drama by Terence Rattigan challenges the abuse of power by the strong over the weak. When a young naval cadet is falsely accused of theft and expelled from the academy, his father confronts the establishment, testing to the limits his intense belief that right must be done. Directed by Anita Chapman.  Performances are Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, 2015 in 35below at Asheville Community Theatre and Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNCA.  All performances begin at 2:30 pm. Youth Production Class Presents Bye Bye Birdie, Jr.: It’s the 1950’s and Conrad Bird, the original rock n’ roll heartthrob, has captivated every girl in the nation. When he’s suddenly drafted into the army, he’s called to record one last song with one lucky girl. Much to the dismay of her “steady,” that lucky girl happens to be Kim MacAfee. This production is performed by a class of students ranging in age from 9 to 15. Performances are Friday, October 30 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 at 2:30 pm.
