Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do hosts 150 martial artists at annual TKDI Invitational Tournament - Oct. 3rd


Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do, the leading martial arts school in Western North Carolina, is welcoming several martial arts schools from across the country to its annual Taekwon-Do International Invitational Tournament on Saturday, October 3. The tournament will take place at Asheville Sun Soo’s newly-expanded premises at 1900 Patton Ave. with 9th Degree Grand Master Suk Jun Kim, President of Taekwon-Do International, as the guest of honor. 

Approximately 150 Tae Kwon Do practitioners of all belt ranks, from white to 4th Degree black belt, and ranging in age from 5 to 69, will compete for medals in three events: forms, sparring and board breaks. A panel of experienced black belts will judge the competition, including several Master Instructors (4th Degree black belt or above) from martial arts schools up and down the East Coast.

Taekwon-Do International (TKDI) is an association of professional Tae Kwon Do schools that are united under the leadership of Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim, 9th Degree, first generation student of General Choi, Hong Hi and pioneer of Original and Traditional Tae Kwon Do. TKDI member schools are dedicated to furthering the growth of original and traditional Tae Kwon Do through high standards of technical ability, comprehensive curricula and professional and ethical conduct for the mutual benefit of all members. Manifesting the original tenets of traditional Tae Kwon Do – courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit, in all areas of business and practice, sets TKDI member schools apart.

This is the 6th year Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do has hosted its TKDI Invitational Tournament since the school launched in 2007 and the first year it will be hosting the exciting tournament at its own facility in West Asheville. In August, Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do expanded its premises to a total of 10,000 sq. ft., twice the size of the previous space, making Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do the largest martial arts school in Western North Carolina in both square footage and student base. The school is located at 1009 Patton Avenue in the Kmart Plaza. 

Since January of 2007, Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do’s team of full-time professional staff has been teaching Traditional Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Jujitsu to men, women and children of all ages, currently ranging in age from 3-73. Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do has been voted #1 martial arts studio (for adults) and #1 martial arts program (for kids) in Mountain Xpress “Best of WNC” for several consecutive years, and once again in 2015.
