The Autumn Players’
Readers Theatre Showcase Series Presents The
Winslow Boy: Based on a
real case and set just before World War I, this moving legal drama by Terence
Rattigan challenges the abuse of power by the strong over the weak. When a
young naval cadet is falsely accused of theft and expelled from the academy,
his father confronts the establishment, testing to the limits his intense
belief that right must be done. Directed by Anita Chapman. Performances are Friday, October 30 and
Saturday, October 31, 2015 in 35below at Asheville Community Theatre and
Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNCA. All
performances begin at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $6.00 (includes NC Sales Tax) and
are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in
person at the ACT Box Office through October 30. All remaining tickets will be
sold at the door.
Youth Production
Class Presents Bye Bye Birdie, Jr.: It’s the 1950’s and Conrad Bird,
the original rock n’ roll heartthrob, has captivated every girl in the nation.
When he’s suddenly drafted into the army, he’s called to record one last song
with one lucky girl. Much to the dismay of her “steady,” that lucky girl
happens to be Kim MacAfee. This production is performed by a class of students
ranging in age from 9 to 15. Performances are Friday, October 30 at 7:30 pm;
Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 and
are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or
in person at the ACT Box Office.
City of Color: An Asheville Aerial Arts Production: People
watching becomes a treat for all the senses with City of Color, a new production from Asheville Aerial Arts that
mixes color, diverse music and costuming, and the aerial acts the troupe is
well known for. In City of Color,
a woman strolls around the town she loves, watches passersby, and tunes in to
what she believes is their story. She sees, among others, a mother and daughter
discovering their love of adventure together, a woman recovering from a
devastating personal crisis, and a young boy playing in a park and having the
time of his life. As the sounds of the city fill her ears, they are quickly
replaced by the beautiful music and powerful artistic presentations. City
of Color is a show not to be missed by any member of the family! City of Color will be performed
November 5-8, 2015 with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at
7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm.
Tickets range from $10.00-$22.00 and are available online at
www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box
Office.
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike Opens in 35below: Attic Salt Theatre Company returns to 35below in
November with their production of Vanya
and Sonia and Masha and Spike directed by Jeff Catanese. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
is one of the most lauded and beloved Broadway plays of recent years (Winner of
the Tony Award for Best Play and nominated for five other Tonys). The plot
revolves around Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia as they live a quiet life in
the Pennsylvania farmhouse where they grew up. Their peace is shattered when
their sister Masha, an aging movie star, returns with her young boy-toy, Spike.
Rivalries are sparked and regrets are voiced. Oh, and their clairvoyant
cleaning woman may or may not have predicted the whole weekend. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
will be performed November 6-22, 2015 with performances Friday and Saturday
nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. All tickets are $20.00 and are available
online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at
the ACT Box Office.
Youth Production
Class Presents Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs of the Black Forest:
Based on the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale. As a beloved fairy tale, most
think they would know the ending to the story of Snow White. However, this
hilarious take on the classic reimagines the iconic characters to create a
delightful world in which every character has their happy ending. This
production is performed by a class of students ranging in age from 7 to 13.
Performances are Friday, November 13 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, November 14 and
Sunday, November 15 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 and are available online at
www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box
Office.
Olde Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge:
Following in the tradition of such shows as Wait, Wait…. Don’t Tell Me and the BBC’s Would I Lie to You?, comes Olde
Virden’s Super Happy Trivia Challenge, a live, unscripted panel show
featuring local actors and personalities putting their wits (and their
patience) to the test as they try and answer esoteric questions about random
topics that interest your host, Adam Arthur. November’s installment will be
presented on November 18, 2015 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Tickets are $12.00 and
are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or
in person at the ACT Box Office.
Storytelling series Listen to This:
In the vein of “The Moth” or “This American Life,” Listen to This features stories and
original songs from locals. November’s theme is “Dining With the Enemy” and it will
be presented on November 19, 2015 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Hosted by Tom
Chalmers. Tickets are $15.00 and are available online at
www.ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320 or in person at the ACT Box
Office.
