Parking changes at Mission Hospital

In response to campus construction needs and in order to improve parking experiences for patients and visitors, Mission Hospital is redesigning its approach to parking.  Initial changes began in early August and include new and temporary traffic patterns, increased shuttle service, increased valet options, additional parking closer to hospital entrances for patients and visitors, and a ticket-based parking validation system.

The St. Joseph campus will not be impacted.

Visitors are asked to look for signage clearly marking visitor and patient parking, which during day-time hours will now include all spaces in the McDowell Deck (across from the main visitor entrance) and the top two floors of the Biltmore Deck (near the emergency department entrance).  Upon entering gated parking areas, guests are asked to pull a ticket from a newly installed machine and then take that ticket inside to one of the information desks for validation.  Upon exiting the parking area, guests will be asked to insert their validated ticket into the machine.  If ticket was not validated, guests may use a call button to reach a person at hospital dispatch who may assist with exiting.

“Parking has long been challenging at Mission Hospital for patients and their families as well as our caregivers,” said Chris DeRienzo, MD, Mission Health Vice President and Chief Patient Safety Officer.  “We routinely evaluate how best to accommodate the thousands who park at Mission Hospital every day.”  Added Garrett Male, Manager of Parking Services, “With the construction of the new patient tower, we are taking this time to redesign our entire parking strategy to best serve the patients we are privileged to care for, their families, and our caregivers.”

The parking deck for the Owen Heart Center is closed and the entrance to the Heart Center will move.  New Heart Center valet services will be available from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday at no charge for patients and at a cost of $5 for visitors.  Existing valet services for all Mission patients will continue to be available and from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Same Day Surgery Entrance.

For those choosing not to use valet services, additional shuttles will be available including dedicated in-deck courtesy service for the Biltmore Deck.  Additional security and parking staff will also be on hand to assist with directions and parking locations.
