Barley's honored as Small Business of the Month

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to honor Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria as Small Business of the Month.

Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria was born late summer of 1994. The now iconic taproom opened with just 7 to 9 taps of what craft beer they could find and some of the finest pizza known to Asheville. Today, Barley's serves about 56 taps of craft beer and continue serving some of the finest pizza in Asheville.

"Our longevity and our commitment to quality products go hand in hand," says Barley's owner Jimi Rentz. "We are proud that our focus on craft beer has helped many brewers get a jump start on Southeastern exposure. We're also proud of the fact that we've served locally sourced beef and vegetables since we opened. "

Barley's opened in Greenville, SC in 1996 and expanded into Knoxville in 1999, taking many local brews into those towns helping to bring recognition to Asheville breweries.

When asked about the best advice he's gotten for leading a small business, Rentz had this to say, "The best advice given to me was to not sign a lease agreement written on a paper napkin." A lot can happen on a napkin but sometimes you just need it to be more official.
